The guys from Graybar went out with guides this morning and caught some nice ones!By Loretta Zortman
As many of you know, we hosted a Norfork Lake Chamber of Commerce fishing media event here at Mockingbird Bay Resort, sponsored by Plano / Frabill, where Arkansas State Tourism invited a handful of awesome outdoor professional writers and pro staff to come to Norfork Lake and experience some stellar fishing, thanks to local guides, some out-of-state guides thanks to Rick Pierce of Bass Cat Boats and the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce. A good time was had by all! Fishing was great! Frank and Val got to go out on a couple of occasions and enjoy the lake as well. It was a 4-day event topped off with a delicious fish fry and live music by the band Coyote Union. Go to Mockingbird Bay Resort's Facebook page for more photos -- I'll be gradually posting more. ...Eh-hem! ...in that cast! Inviting you to relax in a comfy cabin at Mockingbird Bay Resort, and then arrange for a fishing guide to pick you up right off our boat dock and take you out for either Norfork Lake striper fishing or trophy trout river fishing excursion -- an experience of a lifetime!!
A couple of fishing buddies from Missouri were having some good luck catching small mouth bass and stripers this weekend! Luckily, they entered the Fishing Derby -- so their catch may earn them $500 (per species). Good Luck to them! :)By Loretta Zortman

A bit chilly, I'd say! Record cold temps across the region made for a very cold looking Norfork Lake. The wind whipped across the lake causing plumes of steam to waft high into the air like a giant boiling cauldron. What a great day to read a book in front of a crackling fireplace!

Good morning, everybody, from Mockingbird Bay Resort -- What a glorious sunrise we had...so thought I'd share! High temps will be around 50 for a couple of days. What a great way to welcome our Snow Birds from up north. Yes, we do have a limited number of cabins that we rent out monthly for folks who'd like to get out of the real cold weather of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, etc...and c'mon down for some fun at Mockingbird. We'll be welcoming our snowbirds in another week or so. Looking forward to their arrival! :) Call, if you'd like to head south for the winter and be a 'snowbird' too. 870-491-5151.

As the owner of a small business, Mockingbird Bay Resort, I totally appreciate the folks who choose to spend their hard-earned money here with us. So on this beautiful day after Thanksgiving, let me just say a big heartfelt THANK YOU to our awesome guests and friends of the resort. Without you and your continued support, we obviously would not be here. I guess I'm trying to remind people during this holiday season to look for a small business and spend your money there instead of somewhere else. The power of Local...and Community...and unique independent cottage industries is really cool -- so instead of shopping at a giant big-box retailer or franchise chain store, think small. Oh. And as much as I do appreciate American Express for all they've done to promote Small Business Saturday and bring awareness to this issue...if you'd really like to help out the little guy and small Mom and Pop shops, then don't pay with a credit card at all. Pay with cash. That'd really help. Thanks! ...Happy Holidays everybody! (Here's a little video about Small Business Saturday.)
Fall foliage update: Colors are definitely coming. They seem later than last year, in my opinion, by a week or so. Reds are prominent in the undergrowth, with some dark reds/rust and muted yellows showing up in the trees. Night temperatures continue to drop, so things should be poppin' here soon.
